What makes Vapes Safer than Cigarettes?

When vaping first gained popularity, many people thought it was a better option than traditional tobacco products. Recent research, however, indicates that using cigarettes or vaping products is completely unsafe.

With so many  vape brands promoting their products as quit-smoking aids, the U.S. does not acknowledge or accept these claims. Vapes and e-cigarettes are not recognized as effective smoking cessation aids by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These devices may also tempt smokers to switch to vaping as a substitute for smoking, or worse, to use both vices.

There are a few factors that make vapes safer than cigarettes, even though we are aware that neither is safe. Here are some explanations:

  • In two out of every three long-term smokers, cigarettes result in mortality. In contrast to vapes, e-cigarettes haven't been around long enough for studies to assess the long-term hazards connected with their usage, although nicotine vaping has been linked to symptoms like a persistent cough, bronchitis, asthma exacerbation, and pneumonia.
  • Smoke from cigarettes contains compounds, including nicotine, which people breathe into their lungs, where they swiftly enter the circulation and reach the brain. Similar steps are taken when vaping, except that plastic e-cigarettes use  batteries to heat the nicotine-containing liquid to the point of an aerosol rather than burning tobacco leaves to release the nicotine. Nicotine and a few other compounds are quickly transported from the inhaled aerosol to the brain by way of the lungs, bloodstream, and brain. The addiction is produced by the quick and intense transport of nicotine to the brain, making users addicted to vaping much like they are to smoking, depending on the device.
  • In addition to nicotine, vaping and smoking can both transport additional toxins such as ultrafine particles, heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, and other cancer-causing chemicals. However, compared to smoking, vaping often has far lower levels of these toxicants. For this reason, entirely switching to vaping should cause less harm if a person is a chronic, heavy smoker. Nonetheless, vaping by young people who would not otherwise smoke cigarettes is becoming more and more popular, raising serious public health concerns as more teenagers in the United States are exposing their brains to nicotine than in previous years. Dual use of smoking and vaping offers no health benefits and is fairly common.

Thousands of the same hazardous chemicals are present in e-cigarettes even though they don't produce smoke as lighted tobacco cigarettes do. These numerous hazardous compounds include diacetyl, formaldehyde, acrolein, benzene, other toxicants, carcinogens, and heavy metals that are found in the vapor produced by various e-cigarettes, along with some vitamins and minerals.

Following a spike in lung injuries and deaths linked to vaping, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recognized vitamin E as a substance of concern. Thus, even if e-cigarettes have a more appealing and sweeter smell due to  e-liquids, they merely serve to conceal dangerous ingredients.

Sadly, because e-cigarettes are so widely used, even young adults are now vaping. The popularity of e-cigarettes among young people is unknown, but an increasing number of teenagers and young adults have started vaping, many of whom have never smoked. Concerns have been expressed concerning the potential for e-cigarettes to serve as a gateway to tobacco cigarettes as well as the long-term health dangers connected with them.

Conclusion

The truth is that both vaping and smoking are dangerous. However, switching to vaping will significantly lower your risk of dying from cancer, heart disease, or lung disease if you are a smoker who is unable to stop. They claim that compared to smoking, vaping has a long-term risk that is at least 95% lower.
